SHOUT OUT: JULIAN ASSANGE WINS!

Just a short note: Heard on the BBC news this morning that Wikileaks publisher, Julian Assange, has won his extradition case in England. As it stands, he will not be deported to the United States to face horrifically unfair charges of “espionage” and “treason” which could come with a prison sentence in excess of one hundred years! This is a victory for freedom of the press and journalism everywhere. Congrats to Julian and his family. Some good news after a year that really, really has sucked!

Cheers, Jake.

[UPDATE: Assange has, as of Jan.7/21, been denied bail while the U.S. authorities appeal the British lower court decision denying the request by the American government that he be extradited to that country. The decision was based on the judge's assessment of Assange's frail mental and physical health, and the conditions in the U.S. penitentiary system he would encounter. So a victory for journalism and Julian is, I'm afraid, premature. If long overdue.]
