IT’S ALWAYS GOOD to acknowledge successful outcomes when they occur and
to highlight a person’s or persons’ intentions and good will in shepherding
them through to their final solution. One example is from someone we’ve met
before, Itamar Ben-Givir, who is currently
Israel’s Security Minister in the Bibi Netanyahu cabinet (since 2022), a remit
that includes overseeing Israeli prisons. Of late, he has been labelled by some a “fascist”, but that’s such a
over-used word these days, don’t you think? Everybody’s a fascist it
seems—your milkman’s a fascist, the mayor’s a fascist, my mother-in-law is a
fascist (She is, but we don’t talk about it at family gatherings), and so on.
Itamar is called a fascist because of his steadfast insistence that Israel
belongs to the Jews. What’s so hard to understand about that? It’s in the
Bible. After all, God gave the ten commandments to Moses; he didn’t give them
to Muhammad. The unfair, ad-hominem attacks slandering Itamar’s reputation
arise because of his strongly held political views and because of the actions
he has taken while in his cabinet position to assure Israel will have an
exclusively Jewish future.
LATELY, HE’S BEEN EMBROILED in a legal battle temporarily halting
reforms he wants to make to improve infrastructure in Israeli prisons,
particularly those prisons housing significant numbers of Palestinian prisoners
and detainees. Work on his “demonstration” project* at the high-security
Ketziot Prison, located in the Negev Desert of southern Israel near the
Egyptian border, has been halted by the animal rights welfare group: LET THE
ANIMALS LIVE (LAL), who are concerned with the recently revised classification
of Nile crocodiles as “tended wildlife”. LAL claims the creatures are an
endangered species and should be reclassified as “protected wildlife”,
returning the crocs to an earlier, more animal-centric designation. While there
is not a water-filled moat at present surrounding the desert prison,
construction work on the moat canal continues apace.
This August 4 photo
is of Ben-Givir and Environmental Protection Minister Idit
Silman, who was responsible for changing, in July, the crocodile’s designation
to “tended wildlife”, greatly upsetting woke environmental groups like the
LAL. Here, the two ministers inspect the
excavation work at Ketziot and seem pleased with the progress so far. If the court case settles in the government’s
favour, Itamar will be able to bring his demonstration prison moat barrier online (crocs
and all), with plans for similar water features at several more high-security
prisons in the near future. We can only wish Minister Ben-Gvir smooth sailing
in the next government after the upcoming October 27 elections.
BEN-GVIR HAS
ALSO TAKEN CRITICISM, mostly from woke lefties, for what they judge is his
browbeating and ‘threatening’ a Palestinian prisoner with
death in this short clip. But really, folks, isn’t anyone allowed to have a bad hair day anymore
or to be a little more tone deaf than usual in the things we say or do? It can
happen to anybody. Why should Itamar be held to a higher standard? Besides,
editors at the antisemitic Turkish News Agency (TRT) have obviously edited the video, which has since gone viral, in their desire to portray the minister in
the worst possible light. We hear hardly a peep from the Palestinian
criminal during their exchange, so we just don’t know how the rest of the
conversation went. That’s convenient. As a politician in the Jewish state of
Israel, Itamar must listen to all sides of every matter, no matter how vexing
those conversations might prove.
UNDOUBTEDLY, the
TRT hit piece was intended to damage Itamar’s re-election bid, but I think that
plan will backfire as the majority of Jewish Israelis support Ben-Gvir and his
party which is slated to win two additional seats in the Knesset if the polls
hold true. Speaking of possible election game changers, if Itamar can manage to
build a coalition in the Knesset, now that Netanyahu seems poised for defeat,
if he can bring together the right players (no pun intended), he may very well
become Israel’s next Prime Minister! [I kid you not. Ed.]

No slouch in the legislature, Ben-Gvir works hard as a parliamentarian. Earlier this year,
he shepherded through the Knesset the “Death Penalty for Terrorists Law” which
ensures quick justice for Palestinians deemed to have committed such crimes
against the Jewish state, whereby no appeal is possible for this judgement. Death by hanging is the automatic penalty with executions happening between 30
to 60 days from sentencing. This new legislation, does NOT apply to Jewish
Israelis who have been found guilty of similar crimes against the state and, in
particular, the automatic death sentence will never apply for the chosen people.
“This
legislation makes the death penalty by hanging the default and mandatory
sentence for Palestinians convicted in military courts of deadly, nationalistic
terror attacks, unless the court finds rare special circumstances. (Times
of Israel)
WELL DONE, Minister Ben-Gvir! Note that Itamar’s prison remodelling includes additions to a central Israel maximum-security prison that includes the construction of visitor accommodation facilities for victims of
terrorism and for family members to view the Palestinian executions.
"I promised to worsen the
conditions of terrorists in prisons - we kept it," said Ben-Gvir.
"I promised to pass the Death Penalty for Terrorists Law - we did. And now
the death row and hanging facility are also starting to take shape."
According to the announcement,
the facility will include viewing booths for terror victims and their families
to witness the hangings, "as is customary in many countries, with
visitors' permits available for members of bereaved families. We are making
history," Ben-Gvir emphasized. "Our terrorists deserve only
one thing - death by hanging."
We all hope that Israel’s
Security Minister finds little obstacles in the way of his Aliyah (“ascension”)
as a Jewish leader and as a Jewish man living in a world filled with
antisemitism and hate for the Jewish people. Sir, we watch your rise and follow
your career with the keenest interest.
