SOME MAPS

HERE IS AN INTERESTING SET of maps by Colonel Jacques Baud presented on the Daniel Davis Deep Dive podcast. They show, in time, the various ceasefire deals Ukraine could have had with Russia. The first two see no territorial changes at all. These were the Minsk I and II Accords, following the installation of a pro-Western government in 2014.* The Minsk agreements were put in place to resolve conflicts between the eastern provinces of Ukraine, which are ethnically Russian and mostly Russian-speaking, and the western provinces, which are ethnically Ukrainian and who speak Ukrainian. There were civil rights concerns with the minority ethnic Russians in Ukraine not being able to be educated or receive government services in Russian, for example. “Minsk” was set in place with France and Germany acting as “guarantors” of the deal. It was meant to address these and other concerns, but as we know now, there was never a genuine effort to make the deal work or to ratchet down the tensions between east and west. This simmering ‘civil war’ between eastern and western Ukraine continued on a slow burn, with increasing hostilities between eastern and western militias and with Kiev forces until early 2022, when Kiev, which by then had amassed an army of several hundred thousand along the borders of the Donbass, seemed poised to invade. So Russia intervened to stop Ukraine’s shelling of the Donbass and to broker a peace deal that everyone could live with. It sent troops in to make it clear to Kiev that they meant business.
The third and fourth maps show more peace deals Ukraine could have had, if they had sued for peace accepting that they could never win against Russia. The fourth map is the “Istanbul” peace proposal, negotiated after only two months of fighting. In terms of real estate being lost, either deal was one Ukraine should have accepted.
Of course, we know what happened. The Americans sent British clown prince PM Boris Johnson to cajole and arm twist Zelensky into staying in the fight. And the rest is history. The longer this war continues, the more Ukrainian real estate that is lost to the Russians. The “N” on the maps stands for the core demand by Russia that Ukraine be "neutral", something along the lines of the Austrian model.
THE LAST TWO MAPS show what’s in store for the beleaguered nation if it doesn’t bid for peace right now. Otherwise, it will become a neutral, land-locked agrarian backwater, existing as a buffer-state between Russia and the West. Right now, that looks like what fate has in store for Zelensky’s Ukraine.

Cheers, Jake.__________________________________________

* The now infamous “Maidan Revolution” was, in essence, a coup orchestrated by the CIA and State Department, and the execrable neo-con Victoria Neuland, to install a pro-Western regime in Kiev. Which they did.

RANT: WHAT THE F@*# ARE THEY DOING?

ON SUNDAY, THE NEW YORK TIMES, Washington Post and NPR, among a handful of other news outlets reported that U.S. President Joe Biden had given the green light for Ukraine to launch long-range ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missiles into Russia.* AFAIK, there has yet to be an official announcement from Joe Biden, the White House or the State Department about this significant change in policy. Recall the awkward September 13 meeting between President Biden and British pet poodle Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer during which a visibly angry Biden told the surprised Starmer that he would not be given permission to Ukraine to launch British “Storm Shadow” missiles into Russia at that time.1 Starmer had come to Washington to make a joint announcement on the change in long-range missile policy, but last minute lobbying by the U.S. military, who were concerned about a dangerous escalation to the conflict, compelled Biden to change his plans, and the meeting fizzled like a wet squib. That was then.
👉ON SUNDAY, November 17, “leaks” to the U.S. media about the American missile policy change were published.
👉On Monday, Zelensky announced that Ukraine would be launching American ATACMS into Russia.
👉On Tuesday, Russian president Putin formally approved lowering the threshold for using nuclear weapons and inked into law changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine. ALSO on Tuesday, Ukraine launched five ATACMS into Russia. Four were shot down and a fifth did some damage to a weapons depot in the Bryan border region.
👉On Wednesday, there are reports of Russian missiles hitting the Ukrainian power gird and the capital, Kiev. ALSO on Wednesday, Ukraine launched its first “Storm Shadow” British missile.

WHY haven’t we heard anything from the White House or the president? Note that Joe Biden was in Brazil when the story broke on Sunday. He was there for a summit meeting of the G20. After the event there was to be a “family photo” of all the heads of state but JB was AWOL.2 Where did he go on Monday? A reporter from the Macarena Times followed Biden as he wandered off into the Brazilian jungle, and filed this report:

BRASILIA—
CARLOS CASTANETS: “The U.S. President, Mr. Biden, boarded a Monkey Plus Tours Ltd. bus at eight-fifteen this morning, surprising passengers and tour guides. As they drove to their destination, President (“Call me President Joe”) Joe regaled the mostly Portuguese-speaking passengers with stories from his youth and about his friendship with an inner-city boy named “Cornpops” whom he met while working as a lifeguard at a New Jersey swimming pool one summer. Several times during the trip to the Anaconda Wildlife Sanctuary, some fifty kilometers outside Brasilia, President Joe reminded his listeners that America was the “most powerful country on the face..the earth…ever! Oh, you know the drill”. “Listen up!” He quipped with vigor, “I run the world! I do!” In his enthusiasm, he tried to grab the steering wheel until he was helped to his seat by two elderly ladies. (All the passengers were from the Última Parada Nursing Home.)
ONCE AT THE SANCTUARY, President Joe kept up with the group, visiting the lion, elephant and giraffe enclosures. But when they reached the monkey pens, the American president became somber, staring at a group of “Howler” monkeys as they sat staring at him. The tour moved on, but President Joe remained. He ordered a “triple-scoop butterscotch” ice cream cone from a passing vendor and stood licking it. He appeared deep in thought.  From time to time, he would softly say: “Cornpops, where did you go?” and “Why, why?”
Suddenly, and surprisingly for a man of his advanced years, he hopped over the railing and disappeared around the side of the pens. After a while, he reappeared inside the cage! By this time a crowd had gathered, and his Secret Service detail finally arrived. When his bodyguards attempted to extract the President, he waved them off, as did the monkeys who threw feces and made obscene gestures at the security detail. “President Joe” sat beside a large male “Howler” and shared his ice cream with the primate. The two sat quietly for the rest of the afternoon until it was time to go. For this reporter, it was a demonstration of how skillful and humane the American leader could be in making bridges and reaching across divides, in this case between man and monkey. It was a truly remarkable display. —MT News.

WELL, OLD JOE MAY HAVE FOUND common ground with the monkeys, but he’s punting big time when it comes to his fellow Americans, not to mention taking the rest of us down with him if he starts playing with the nuclear codes! But reversing such an important policy on the use of ATACMS into Russia without even an official announcement? Leaking the “Okay” to a few news outlets but no statements from the White House, State Department, or the Pentagon? Just quietly giving Ukraine’s president the green light to launch strikes deep into Russia. Why? Did Biden hope a surprise missile attack would so destabilize Russia that President Putin would sue for peace? Get real. If three years of missile attacks into Ukraine by Russia failed to collapse the government in Kiev, do you really think a few dozen missiles3 launched into Russia, a country with a landmass spanning eleven time zones, would somehow succeed?

THESE MISSILES will serve no useful purpose because, as we've seen over the past three years, it takes more than missiles to win a war, unless they're nuclear. Then all bets are off. Ukraine is losing the war and no last-ditch supply of "ATACMS" or "Storm Shadow" missilery will change that outcome.

“’Ukraine's supply of long-range missiles is small, so it will need to choose its targets carefully, Shashank Joshi, the Economist's defense editor, says.
‘Ukraine has to pick every target with extreme care,’ he tells the Verify Live program on the BBC news channel.” (BBC)

OR THEY MAY JUST WANT to fuck with Trump and hand him a warm turd (or “hot potato”, if you prefer) when he takes office in January, with a war in Ukraine simmering near the boiling point. Or maybe the old standbys of graft and corruption are behind the latest Washington machinations. That wouldn’t be at all surprising.

JUST TO END, it is important to understand that Russia has legitimate security concerns. NATO, over the last thirty years has recklessly moved ever closer to Russia’s border, scooping up members into an alliance that increasingly threatens Russian strategic (i.e., nuclear) and national interests. To add “fuel to the fire” as President Putin says, by deliberately provoking Russia, now with long-range missiles that will do nothing to change the outcome (Russian victory) in Ukraine, is folly of the highest order. And instead of looking for ways to deescalate and find common ground for negotiating a peace to this bloody and entirely avoidable conflict, Ukraine's Western enablers instead flooded it with weapons and stoked the flames of proxy combat. And because Donald Trump says he wants to end the Ukraine gravy train war, that cranky opa in the White House, Joe Biden, during the tail end of his time in office, throws a spanner into the works and reverses his policy on the use of American missiles by Ukraine, hoping the intensified conflict will continue under a Trump presidency. Biden may also be hedging his bets, legacy-wise, by being able to say: "Look. We gave Ukraine everything we could and Trump cancelled it, and Ukraine fell on his watch." Maybe that's the kind of self-glorifying  muck swirling around inside Biden's addled and fevered brain these days. So, ignore all the lives that have been lost and the destruction that's been wrought throughout Ukraine, all because of the selfish actions by a few holding the levers of power in Washington. It's truly shameful.

AND WHAT WILL RUSSIA DO to respond to the missile attacks? That's the sixty-four-thousand-dollar question, kemosabe.4  And here's another consideration: The Russians may be waiting for a Trump administration to open a dialogue between the two countries (President Joe has not spoken with his Russian counterpart in two years!), perhaps leading to peace negotiations, as Trump has said he wants to end the conflict. We may have dodged a bullet with Trump's win in November, because the Russians may decide to wait out any attacks orchestrated by the dying Biden administration, knowing there are just six weeks or so left until Trump is inaugurated. (Though as British PM Harold Wilson is said to have quipped: "A week in politics is a very long time.")
On the other hand, a Harris administration would continue the failed and dangerous Rusophobic policies that have gotten us to this bat-shit-crazy place where two nuclear superpowers play a game of chicken. With Harris and the ghouls controlling advising her, the Russians might have been compelled to climb that escalatory ladder, and who knows where we would be if that happened.😱

Cheers, Jake.______________________________________

* The ATACMS have a range of about 190 miles which is more like a medium-range missile, if you want to get picky. Far short of Moscow, BTW.

1. The British missiles require American satellite telemetry for targeting purposes.
2. Justin Trudeau and Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni💕were also absent from the scheduled Monday photo op. Fortunately, all three made it for Tuesday’s re-take. ( I hope Justin’s fly was zipped!)
3. On Wednesday, the Starmer government gave the go-ahead for Ukraine to launch “Storm Shadow” missiles into Russia. Several were launched. Though this too was also reported unofficially through “leaks” given to the press. Why? Perhaps the Americans and Brits want to have what’s called “plausible deniability” to be able to lie say the strikes were Ukraine’s doing and not “officially” sanctioned? Who knows? Perhaps they want to see how far they can push Russia, to goad it into making a rash move and they can then say Russia is the aggressor?
 4. One thing we may count on is the fact that Russia has an adult as its head of state. Western leaders, and especially American ones, are hopelessly wet behind the ears and act more like children having temper tantrums. For the most part, they are emotional and irrational and do a great disservice to their respective populations.
THAT SAID, I think Putin will hold fire on any drastic retaliations UNLESS something major is hit by incoming missiles or enough Russian are killed. After that, he may be compelled by domestic considerations and hard-liners in his government to launch a more deadly response. So, baring a major strike damaging critical infrastructure (e.g. long range radar sites, nuclear facilities) he may decide to escalate "horizontally" rather than "vertically" by, for example, arming the Houthis in Yemen with anti-missile batteries, or give advanced weaponry to Cuba. Thus, he avoids climbing the dangerous vertical escalatory ladder which could very well end with the use of nuclear weapons. Time will tell.

RANT: DEATH DON'T HAVE NO MERCY IN THIS LAND.

I CAME ACROSS THIS PHOTO earlier this month as I was reading the news and, at first glance, I didn't understand what I was looking at. I thought it was a swarm of bees, tiny little things, insects all bunched together. Of course, a moment later I realized it was a photo of a crowd taken by an overhead drone. How many? Several hundred, certainly. Where? Northern Gaza. What are they doing? They are being forced to leave their homes. Why? That’s the sixty-four-thousand-dollar question, but the answer is simple enough: Their community is being ethnically cleansed by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), compelling the inhabitants to march into the southern half of the Palestinian enclave. Again, why? So that Israel can take Palestinian land north of the new Netzarim Corridor which bisects Gaza. Then the Israelis will create new settlements in northern Gaza.*
NOTE: In the photo above, the crowd of Palestinians thins out into a single line. It’s obvious they are coming to some sort of bottleneck in the roadway or, more likely, it’s a checkpoint they must pass through to continue their journey. It’s not clear from this photo--which crops out most of an Israeli tank or armored vehicle of some sort stationed at the bottleneck--just what the IDF doing, but I think its probable they are taking biometric scans of each Palestinian as they pass through the choke-point. It’s done in case anyone attempts to return to their home in northern Gaza. Then they can be more easily located and pursued as an insurgent, and shot  on sight. Once Palestinians leave their homes and neighbourhoods they will never be allowed to return.
THE IDF PHOTOGRAPH THEM for their facial recognition archives and take biometrics like fingerprints, perhaps even iris scans. This high-tech cataloguing of Palestinians has another purpose. Corporations and governments are wont to ‘field test’ their latest software or gadget or bomb in real-world conflict zones like Gaza or Ukraine. The bloody genocide in Gaza is where new weapons and strategies are put to the test to rate their efficacy, and to find out whether they can be used in other conflicts or be sold to foreign militaries and intelligence services. For example, two conflict software programs called “Lavender” and “Where’s Daddy”1 are used extensively by the IDF to collate information from cell phones, drone footage, and other data points, after which their AIs generate who are likely to be Hamas operatives in order to provide the IDF with a database of Palestinian targets to be killed. The programs' results are AI generated with tens of thousands of Palestinians put on the suspect list. But there is no guarantee the AI accurately distinguishes between civilians and militia members. Its results are based on machine-generated probabilities with little human input. A militia fighter may be targeted by “Lavender” because he follows certain daily patterns and fits the profile of an insurgent, as per the software’s algorithmic parameters. However, a civilian having similar patterns that overlap a Hamas fighter’s profile may fall victim to the same algorithms. Too bad, so sad, as far as the IDF and the Israeli government are concerned.

“Where’s Daddy” is another software being tested in Gaza that predicts when Hamas members are likely to be in their homes, and that's generally in the evening. It provides targeting information for a missile or drone attack on the Hamas fighter's location. The fact that the Hamas fighter’s family is likely to be killed along with “Daddy” because they, too, are also more likely to be home in the evening is written off as collateral damage. But the AI program, along with “Lavender”, is no-doubt being ‘battle-tested’ and will be packaged for sale to other countries’ militaries and governments if they are not already.
Another example of a ‘teachable moment' for Israeli forces comes from its bombing campaign in Lebanon, where the IAF (Israeli Air Force), now has a better understanding of just how many “bunker-busting” bombs it takes to level six high-rises in a city block and penetrate sixty feet of earth to destroy an underground bunker. On September 27, in the Dahieh suburb of Beirut, the Israelis dropped between twenty and thirty 2,000-pound bombs in a single raid to destroy an underground bunker where the Hezbollah chief, Hassan Nasrallah, and his commanders were meeting. [There were ninety-one civilian  casualties but no reported deaths in the attack.]

TO RETURN TO NORTHERN GAZA, there is a plan afoot to trial run a high-tech incarceration program designed to turn “the remains of villages and neighborhoods into tiny concentration camps cut off from their environs and surrounded and controlled by mercenaries.” (Cohen)
SO, FOR THOSE left in northern Gaza who have not starved to death, they may have the privilege of being human guinea pigs in a social experiment as dystopian as anything Orwell could have dreamed up. The plan is promoted by a private military contractor, Global Delivery Company (GDS), under the guise of distributing food aid in Gaza. What journalist Dan Cohen describes as “electronic cantons” would be set up, with walls barricading each settlement from its neighbour. Gazans would be free to come and go, but they must have the correct biometric ID to receive food aid. Moti Kahana, head of GDS, disingenuously refers to these walled ghettos as “gated communities”.😒 Kahana plans to enlist Palestinians that have been vetted by the IDF as aid distribution workers, and to have a thousand CIA-trained military contractors (aka “mercenaries”) to enforce order. Good luck, gentlemen, with your experiments!😣
👉So, wall off communities, then electronically monitor the people 24/7, feed and house them to keep them pacified, and thus break the back of Hamas which can no longer recruit from the captive population.4 At least that’s the business model. They don’t mention anything about schools or hospitals and other necessary social services, however.

IT SOUNDS LIKE A JAIL to me with life sentences for the Palestinians. And if such a scheme works in the decimated north of Gaza, it will be replicated throughout the Gaza Strip. Recall that Israel has recently severed its contract with UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency), meaning the largest network for food and humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza will soon have to leave. Private companies like GDS are envisioned to take over food distribution in the enclave, with either the IDF having a permanent presence in the Palestinian territory or else troops from neighbouring Arab states will assume that role. Gaza will once more be garrisoned, and Gazans will live in these ‘mini ghettos, monitored 24/7. What's not to like?

JUST TO RECAP and to be clear: Israel wants ALL Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank2 to either die, leave the country or submit. Those are their only choices. The IDF has bombed most of Gaza back to the stone age. They have made it literally unlivable, destroying infrastructure, homes, farmland, and businesses—everything, including hospitals, schools and mosques, that are necessary to keep a civil society functioning. Now, 100% of Gazans are dependent upon humanitarian aid from the outside. And Israel has choked off most of that aid, while slow walking3 the rest. As for northern Gaza, Israel has cut off all food supplies from entering, forcing people to leave, or die of starvation. Many will leave. Many will starve. And many will die.
Currently, the Palestinians4 south of the Netzarim Junction receive far from adequate supplies of food, water and medical supplies and, with Israel’s demand that UNRWA end its aid distribution activities, they will soon face food insecurity issues that could be as dire as is found in northern Gaza. And, of course, dozens are killed daily throughout the Strip in bombing campaigns conducted by the IAF and ground assaults by the IDF.
👉Ethnic cleansing, genocide, collective punishment. Murder, torture, rape.
Crimes against humanity committed by the world’s “most moral army”, led by its fanatical government and supported by a xenophobic population. And the United States—the one country that could bring this horror to an end by stopping arms shipments to Israel—shamefully, continues to enable that country’s commission of war crimes, while the rest of us, who watch and do nothing, are complicit in this century’s first genocide.
👉Some sources estimate the Palestinian death toll in Gaza will be between 180,000 and 200,000 when the dust finally settles.
Good job, all!

Cheers, Jake.______________________________________
* Note: there are valuable natural gas deposits off the coast of Gaza that Israel wants. And recall that Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-of-a-bitch-in-law, suggested earlier this year that Gaza has prime waterfront real estate property just waiting to be turned into high-end condo developments. [As soon as they bury all the rubble and desiccated remains of Palestinians crushed to death beneath said rubble. Ed.]

1. YGTBKM! “Where’s Daddy” is a truly sick name for software that generates death-dealing algorithms. It reminds me of something sprung from the head of a pimply-faced, code-writing incel living in his parent’s basement, whose only understanding of life comes from playing Alex Mason in “Call of Duty”.
2. TRUMP, after he is inaugurated on January, 20, 2025 will likely give his imprimatur (completely illegal under international law, BTW) for Israel's annexation of the West Bank, which is currently being debated in the Knesset. If passed by Israel's legislature in the next few weeks, this would give the green light for settlers to confiscate Palestinian land at will. Trump will likely give his 'thumbs up' for the deal, just like he did when Israel annexed the Golan Heights. After all, Trump has been bought and paid for by the ultra-Zionist, Israeli-American billionaire, Miriam Adelson. She gave his presidential campaign 100-million dollars, with some commentators suggesting that Trump's assent  to incorporate the West Bank into the state of Israel was part of the deal. So it goes.
 3. RECALL that over one million Gazans were forced out of their homes in the northern third of the enclave, into crowded refugee camps in the south. Already known as "the world's largest open air prison", Gaza's 2.3-million Palestinians have been forced into an even smaller prison. Additionally, the Israelis destroyed the Rafah gate between Gaza and Egypt, which once served as the main artery for food aid to enter. Now, Israel allows only a minimum of food aid to enter Gaza via the smaller Kerem Shalom gate which it totally controls.
4. Of course, Gazans are free to leave. It's called "voluntary migration". There may be some financial assistance from the Israeli government to aid their move. But once they leave, they can never return, like millions of Palestinians in the diaspora. There are estimated six-million Palestinians living outside Palestine today.

SOME TUNES:
