Yep. It wasn’t
too hard deciding on this month’s cringiest pic. Every member in Canada’s Parliament stood to applaud as the (former) Speaker of the House introduced
Yaroslav Hunka, standing in the public gallery. Hunka, 98, was a former member
of the Waffen-SS 1st Galician Division. He was a Nazi soldier who “fought
against Russia” during WWII, which means he fought against the Allies, which included
both Canada and the USSR.
That this despicable event happened in the seat of our supposed democracy is a betrayal of the memory of all
those who fought against Nazism in the middle decades of the 20th
Century. That this could happen in the early decades of this century,
does not bode well for the times ahead.
