better times for Ukraine’s President Zelensky. On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, he spoke to the U.S.
Congress by video to plead for support as his country lay besieged by Russian
forces. Dressed in his cleanest khaki outfit,
Zelensky’s star was ascendant at the time. World leaders came to Kiev. The Ukrainian
president spoke before parliaments and legislatures around the world. Victory
was just one more weapon system and money tranche away. Glorious times they
were! For months, this “new Churchill” strode across the world’s stage conning
winning the hearts and minds of billions.
BUT WITH the terrible events now unfolding in the Middle East, I’m afraid Zelensky can’t even get a call-back from his most stalwart of allies. His magic is on the wane as the world’s attention turns to the bloodletting in Gaza. In the U.S. Congress, there is unprecedented push-back to sending more money and weapons to Ukraine. Time magazine just published a scathing, behind-the-scenes exposé of complaints from aides and advisors closest to the Ukrainian president, revealing their frank assessment of Zelensky’s administration and his handling of the war. The article quotes insiders as saying the Ukrainian president is “delusional”, and that his war aims are “unrealistic”. Such comments are a far cry from a year ago when Zelensky was idolized and named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year.” How the mighty have fallen! Zee better pack his bags and sacks of money, and warm up the presidential jet because it won’t be long before his term in office comes to an end, one way or another.
